Windshield cracks or ships can happen anytime, and when they happen, you might resort to temporary repair until you take your car to be repaired by a professional in auto glass repair. This article will highlight three simple temporary techniques of repairing your windshield. However, these methods are meant for minor chips and cracks; so, if your car has larger chips or cracks, you should consider taking it to a professional for repairs right away or having a glass replacement specialist come to you.

Nail Polish

You can use clear nail polish fix small chips and cracks temporarily. This assists in preventing the chip or crack from advancing until the glass is repaired.

All you need is:

  • Nail polish brush
  • Clear nail polish

These repairs should be done when the car is under a shade to prevent the polish from drying before it bonds the crack or chip. To repair the glass, you need to apply sufficient nail polish on the glass using the brush on order to cover the entire chip or crack. Then, you can add an even layer on the damaged part until you are satisfied that the chip or crack is sealed. Always ensure that you fill the crack or chip evenly to prevent it from becoming bigger. Once you finish, move the vehicle to the sun in order to allow the nail polish to dry.

Super Glue

This is similar to clear nail polish fix. But, it is important to understand that it is not a permanent fix, and you should take your vehicle to be repaired by a certified professional in auto glass repair. All you need during this process is:

  • Super glue
  • Cotton swabs
  • Glue remover
  • Scissors

First, you will need to open the super glue tube using the scissors. Next, apply the super glue in the chip or crack, and ensure that you regulate the amount of glue that flows from the tube. Then, use one cotton swab to spread the super glue in the crack, and another swab to clean the excess glue. In case you spill the glue on the wrong area, you can clean it using the glue remover.

DIY Solution

This method works perfectly on minor cracks. To repair the windshield using the DIY solution, you require the following:

  • Sponge
  • Rubbing bowl
  • Water – ½ cup
  • Bug spray – 1 teaspoon
  • Rubbing alcohol – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 tablespoon

Mix the water, bug spray, salt, and rubbing alcohol in a bowl. Dip the sponge into the solution and then apply the soliton along the chip or crack. Allow the solution to dry for at least two hours. Then, check to see if the crack or chip is visible after the two hours. Repeat the process until the chip or crack disappears.

Remember, these are only temporary repairs until a better solution can be arranged. Intact glass is important for your safety and driving visibility.
